Elbit Systems et IAI ont renoncé à participer à la Convention d’affaires Aéromart.Une victoire BDS

Elbit systems and IAI dropped their participation to the Aeromart Business Convention. A victory for the BDS Campaign.

While 8 israeli companies, including IAI and Elbit systems, participated to Aeromart Business convention [in Toulouse, France] in 2010 without any slight objection, this year, a strong campaign starting in February 2012 changed the stakes. In a first step, our action was led toward the Regional Council of Midi-Pyrenees region, a supporting body for the Convention. We obtained a promise, that will have to be duly checked, that grants to participating middle-size companies will be subordinated to respect of international law, including that resulting from the Brita Decision.

Then, BDS campaign moved toward building a wide unitary movement aimed at organizing a rally during the first hour of the Convention, on Dec. 4 at 8-9 am. This was a success since more than 60 activists from the whole region gathered in a highly spirited rally, shouting slogans, explaining the meaning of our presence or answering radio and TV (unusual) interviews.

A few hours later, we learnt on TV from the CEO of the Convention organizing company that Elbit Systems and IAI “had decided at the last moment to NOT participate to the event”. According to our sources, these companies feared, in addition to a degraded image, other actions during the period of companies gatherings (dec. 5-6).”

Thanks to the BDS campaign, which answered to the palestinian call for a a complete and immediate embargo of Israel, “business as usual” is over. This first victory is a tremendous encouragement and it calls for new ones !
